For homeowners
Don't pick the wrong installer.
Hurricane protection is one of the most expensive — and most regulated — improvements you'll make to a Florida home. The wrong contractor doesn't just cost you money. They can void your insurance discount, fail your county inspection, and leave you exposed when the storm actually arrives.
The real risks of the wrong installer
Permits not pulled
Unpermitted hurricane work fails resale inspection and may have to be torn out.
Non-NOA hardware in HVHZ
If you live in Miami-Dade or Broward, non-NOA products will not pass — and won't protect you in a real storm.
No wind mitigation paperwork
Without a properly filed OIR-B1-1802 form, you lose the insurance discount that pays for the project.
Cash-only, no license
Unlicensed contractors disappear before warranty claims and leave you with no recourse.
What to look for
- Active Florida CGC, CRC, CBC, or CCC license you can verify on the DBPR site.
- Products with current Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval numbers.
- Familiarity with your county's wind zone (HVHZ vs. 140 mph vs. 120 mph).
- An office that handles its own permits and inspections.
- OIR-B1-1802 wind mitigation form completed and filed with your insurer.
- Written warranty on both labor and materials, in plain English.
